5 TIPS FOR VISITING THE WASHINGTON TULIP FIELDS

As you can probably tell from my many posts on Instagram, I recently visited the Skagit Valley Tulip festival right here in the beautiful Pacific North West. It was something I had been dying to see since I first heard about the festival a few months before moving to Seattle. The best part is that you don't have to travel all the way to Holland to see fields of gorgeous tulips. Here are my top 5 tips for planning your visit to the tulip fields:
1. Plan to visit in April: Obviously theres no way to know when exactly the tulips will bloom, but it's a pretty sure bet that they will bloom in April. My main advice is to check the bloom website to see when they are officially in bloom and plan accordingly.
2. Plan to visit on a weekday: Crowds get crazy on weekends, so the middle of the week is the best time to visit. We visited on a Monday and it was still busy, so you can imagine what weekends must be like. People come from all over the country to visit the tulips!
3. Arrive right when the fields open: If you're anything like me, then getting the best photos is definitely at the top of your priority list. Make sure you arrive right when the fields open and try to be one of the first ones to the fields. Parking is free at both locations. You can choose to visit either Tulip Town farm or RoozenGaarde. We went to RoozenGaarde, but I think both sites offer gorgeous tulips.
4. Bring a camera: I probably snapped 1,000 pictures while I was there, and it was totally worth it. My main piece of advice is to make your way to the outer fields. It is a bit of a hike, but there are less crowds and you get the best photo ops. At RoozenGaarde, the pretties pink tulips are some of the farthest fields away, so definitely make your way out there.
5. Wear rain boots: As you probably already know, it rains a lot in the Seattle area and the tulip fields are often very muddy. You will have to walk quite a distance, so I would recommend wearing a pair of rain boots. I wore a dress and still rocked my trusty Hunters.
